Instruction for Submitting Online Appeal

An appeal can be made before the film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) under Section 5C of the Cinematograph Act, 1952 by an applicant for a certificate in respect of a film in case s/he is aggrieved by an order of the order of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

  • a. Refusing to grant a certificate; or
  • b. Granting only an 'A' certificate; or
  • c. Granting only a 'S' certificate; or
  • d. Granting only a 'UA' certificate; or
  • e. Directing the applicant to carry out any excisions or modifications.

The appeal can be filed within 30 days from the date of the order of the CBFC, or within a further period of 30 days, in case he have been prevented by sufficient cause from filing the Appeal within the intial period of 30 days. The Discretion to condone the delay beyond 60 days can be execised be a Writ Court.

The applicant can file Appeal Form online along with the requisite fee and an English subtitled DVD of the film.
